New destination for Somerton Slinky from 3rd August 2026

Somerton Slinky will connect to Castle Cary Train Station. This service is ideal for the commuter linking both Somerton and Langport to Castle Cary train station giving onward train services to London, Bath and Bristol Services.  This service requires pre-booking and operates Monday to Friday. 

• Leaves Langport at 06:30 and Somerton at 06:45 arriving at Castle Cary train station at 07:15
• Departs Castle Cary at 18:25 arriving in Somerton at 18:55 and Langport at 19:10


Please note this is a trial to evaluate demand.


Want to travel from the Somerton area to Castle Cary train station at other times, maybe for a day out. You can book the Somerton Slinky to Keinton Mandeville and then use either the 567 or 667 bus service to connect to Castle Cary train station. 567 and 667 timetable from 3rd August 2026

 

Slinky is a demand responsive transport service, a flexible bus service operating across 6 regional areas in Somerset and funded by the Council.

To use the Slinky, you will need to register and become a member. You must over the age of 16 to register. Parents, guardians, or carers once registered can book for their dependents. Passengers under the age of 5 need to be accompanied by an adult.

It can be used for many things. It can take you to health appointments or exercise classes, help you visit family and friends, go shopping, or attend social events. You can also use it to connect to other public transport options.

Dependent on where you live, there are two types of Slinky Service. Our non-digital Slinky services operate in Mendip, South Somerset, and West Somerset while our digital Slinky services operate in Somerton, Sedgemoor, Taunton and Wellington.

1. Digital Slinky Services

We are trialling a new way to book Slinky bus journeys online. The Slinky Digital initiative is funded by the Government’s Bus Service Improvement grant and is part of Somerset’s Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP).

If you wish to use one of our digital services, you need to register. Once registered you will be able to request a journey using the Padam App or web site, or alternatively contact the booking office at least 1 hour in advance of the time you wish to travel.

Bookings can be made up to 2 weeks in advance.

Should you be unable to make your way to one of the designated pick up points due to mobility issues, we can arrange to pick you up from home. Please discuss with the relevant booking office.

Taunton and Wellington no longer operate the Dial-a-Ride service.  For group travel enquires please contact their booking office.

2. Non-digital Slinky Services

If you wish to use one of our non-digital services, you need to register. Once registered you will be able to request a journey by contacting the booking office at least 24 hours in advance of the time you wish to travel. Bookings can be made up to 2 weeks in advance.
