What is the Slinky Bus?

Slinky Bus is a door to door demand responsive transport service funded by Somerset Council for people not served by or unable to access conventional public transport. All the vehicles are accessible and the service can be used for various puposes including; getting to local health appointments or exercise classes, visting friends or family, going shopping or attending social events. You can also use Slinky as a link to access other forms of public transport.

Who can use the Slinky?

To be eligible to travel on a Slinky bus, you must either:

  • Have no access to a public bus service, and not have your own transport; or

  • Have a disability which means you cannot use public transport.

How does it work & how to register?

If you are eligible and wish to use the service, you need to register by completing a registration form for the required service area. Once registered you will be able to request a journey by contacting the booking office at least 24 hours in advance of the time you wish to travel. Booking can be made up to two weeks in advance.

NEW Slinky Digital Trial has arrived in Somerton!!

This trial is a digital version of the Slinky on-demand transport service, known as Digital Demand Responsive Transport (DDRT), operating throughout Somerton and the surrounding areas shown on the map below.

The ‘on demand’ service is a flexible bus service with no set route, provided for passengers who book in advance. The trial introduces a new simple way to book your journey using the new Slinky app.

Absolutely anyone can use this service, as long as you do not have access to a public bus service to make the journey.
